OPERA WESTERN RESERVE ANNOUNCES 2026 OPERA PRESENTATION AT PENGUIN CITY BREWING COMPANY

Press Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (MARCH 26, 2026): Opera Western Reserve is excited to present a special event featuring a live performance of The Voice on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Penguin City Brewing Company. Directed by OWR General Director Scott Skiba, this compelling one-act opera is sung in English and was composed by Francis Poulenc in 1958, based on the play La Voix Humaine by Jean Cocteau.

General Director Scott Skiba says, “OWR launched this alternative venue programming last spring with a riveting production of Argento’s Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night. We’re excited to continue this programming with a gripping production of The Voice and to explore this new partnership with Penguin City and to reach new audiences with the power of the Human Voice as only possible through opera theater!”

The Voice tells the story of a woman, known only as Elle, as she engages in a final phone call with her lover who has left her for another woman. As the conversation unfolds in real time, the audience witnesses Elle’s emotional unravelling.

The performance will take place in the unique atmosphere that Penguin City’s Taproom has to offer, and the event will include raffle items, a cash bar, and Suzie’s food truck. Penguin City opens to the public at 4:00 PM, with the event starting at 5:30 PM and the performance beginning at 6:00 PM.

Tickets for The Voice will go on sale Tuesday, March 31, 2026. General admission tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. VIP table packages are also available: $300 for a table of eight or $160 for four seats at a table. VIP tables include one drink per guest and a charcuterie board from Jimmy’s Italian Specialties.

Sponsorship packages are also available. Tickets can be obtained by calling the YourArts Box Office at 330-259-9651, visiting in person at 260 West Federal Street, Youngstown, Ohio, or online at operawesternreserve.org, available 24/7.
