OPERA WESTERN RESERVE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR CARMEN

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (February 17, 2023): Opera Western Reserve will hold auditions for the following:

2023 Main Stage Production of Bizet’s Carmen

Production Date: November 17, 2023 – 7:30pm
Auditions for the following roles:
– Frasquita
– Mercedes
– Le Remendado
– Le Dancaire
– All other roles are cast currently

Future Main Stage Productions All Roles Standard Repertoire

Audition repertoire for Carmen and Future Mainstage Productions:
– One aria in French
– One aria in Italian
– One or more additional arias of your choosing

Emerging Artists for the 2023-2024 Season:

Soprano, Mezzo, Tenor, Baritone, and Bass-Baritone voice types
Audition for:
– Mainstage ROLES: Frasquita, Mercedes, El Remendado, El Dancairo
– Emerging Artists ROLES: Carmen, Don Jose, Escamillo, Micaela

OWR Emerging Artists will be featured in the following ’23/’24 programming for young audiences: 
– a reduced “mini-mainstage” presentation based on our upcoming production of Carmen on November 17, 2023
– a touring children’s opera in Spring 2024
– possible other community outreach performances throughout the season

Audition repertoire for OWR Emerging Artists:
– One aria/art song in English
– One aria in French (if possible). Emerging Artist Applicants who wish to be considered for the available roles and/or covers in Carmen must include an aria in French
– At least one additional piece from your repertoire

Application Process

– Applications must include uploaded audition videos
– Deadline for applications: April 1, 2023

LIVE AUDITIONS by invitation
– April 19. 2023 – 4:30pm-9:00pm
– Invited in-person auditions will be held onstage at the DeYor Performing Arts Center and will be scheduled by appointment
– Once invited to audition in-person, a non-refundable audition fee of $30 is due at the time of appointment reservation. This fee includes an on-site accompanist.

OWR encourages performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities and expressions, ages, abilities, and body types to audition. All principal and supporting role contracts are paid. Selected chorus ensemble leader positions are paid.
