OPERA WESTERN RESERVE AWARDED GRANT FROM ARTS MIDWEST

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (November 21, 2023): Opera Western Reserve (OWR) has received $4,000 through the Arts Midwest GIG Fund in support of OWR’s Emerging Artists program.
OWR’s Emerging Artists program engages budding opera singers in mentorship, professional development opportunities, and community outreach. This year, the Emerging Artists began their season with a presentation of Georges Bizet’s Carmen. This show was a condensed version of the original opera performed for local school children at the DeYor Performing Arts Center. The Emerging Artists will also bring opera to local youth through the opera tour that will begin in April 2024. Artists will visit schools in the area, creating greater access to arts engagement and education for students. Finally, a public concert will be held at the end of the tour for the community.
The Arts Midwest GIG Fund specifically awards $2,000-$4,000 to support small to mid-sized nonprofit organizations located in the Midwest. These awards are to be used to support programs that feature professional artists. 103 recipients were awarded funds from this source and 49% had never received funding from Arts Midwest before.
