OPERA WESTERN RESERVE AWARDED GRANT FROM THE MONDAY MUSICAL CLUB OF THE YOUNGSTOWN FOUNDATION

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (October 5, 2023): Opera Western Reserve (OWR) has received $14,000 from the Monday Musical Club of the Youngstown Foundation in support of OWR’s season which includes the annual fall opera. Opera Western Reserve gratefully acknowledges their support of the arts in our community.
This year, OWR will present Bizet’s Carmen on November 17th at the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown. The opera tells the story of a hopeless soldier, Don José, who is seduced by Carmen, a fiery performer at a nightclub. Abandoning his childhood sweetheart and turning his back on his military career, the opera follows José in his pursuit of Carmen’s attention. Additionally, OWR plans to continue its annual Emerging Artists Program that benefits budding artists in the community as well as local school children.
The mission of Opera Western reserve is to produce and present opera performances of the highest quality to audiences in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. To provide a performance platform for professional artists from northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. To take a leadership role in artist training, arts education and audience development, including children and young adults. To foster partnerships with the Youngstown Opera Guild and other arts organizations in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
