OPERA WESTERN RESERVE AWARDED GRANT FROM THE OHIO ARTS COUNCIL

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (September 26, 2023): Opera Western Reserve (OWR) has received $8,201 from the Ohio Arts Council Sustainability grant in support of OWR’s operating budget. This year, OWR plans to present Carmen on November 17th, a mini mainstage production for local children, and the Emerging Artists educational outreach program.

The mission of Opera Western Reserve is to produce and present opera performances of the highest quality to audiences in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. To provide a performance platform for professional artists from northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. To take a leadership role in artist training, arts education and audience development, including children and young adults. To foster partnerships with other arts and culture organizations in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

For its main stage production this season, Opera Western Reserve presents George Bizet’s opera Carmen. The opera tells the story of a hopeless soldier, Don José, who is seduced by Carmen, a fiery performer at a nightclub. Abandoning his childhood sweetheart and turning his back on his military career, the opera follows José in his pursuit of Carmen’s attention. Carmen will be presented live on November 17, 2023 at the DeYor Performing Arts Center.
